Damian Kerr
Damian Kerr is a New Zealand based artist who creates contemporary landscapes and figurative works that explore a relationship to water and a focus on environmental concerns.
His work is in high demand and now hangs in private collections in New Zealand, Australia, Italy, United States, China and London.
Damian's large waterscapes of his 'What I Sea' series often appear as works of realism at first glance; but are built up of dynamic surfaces, laying colours and oil paint wet on wet.
These luscious seascapes are actually some of Auckland's most polluted harbours. It is about showing these at-risk waterways in a moment of beauty and serve as a reminder of how much we need to protect them.
Sometimes the subject of his paintings is the light on the water surface, In is 'More than Monsters' series we dip under the waves and find little plastic monsters drifting in our seas.
Damian's 'Waterworld' series imposes the same watery filter over the dry world
The latest 'Twelve Years' series explores our relationship to water in the countdown to climate change.
Damian lives in Auckland with his wife Tessa and three children & Jerry the cat.
